Words from a dear friend, fellow writer and Lowcountry legend

Roger Pinckney

Wendy Nilsen Pollitzer is a journalist with a finger squarely on the pulse of the South Carolina Lowcountry, a place she has lived all her life.  She has also been, at various times, a park manager, a park interpreter, a naturalist, a photographer, an editor and a producer for a local television station, all good places to feel that pulse.  She is also charming, witty and damned fine company, be it juttering down a pot-holed Lowcountry dirt road or sipping a cool one at some dockside dive, philosophizing and watching the river flow.

Wendy is the author of two of Acadia’s Images of America local history books, Port Royal and Isle of Palms, her childhood home.  And there are rumors of two more books on the way.  Not sure of the subject matter, but I know Wendy Pollitzer and I know they will be good.

"I love Wendy Pollitzer’s writing. Her instincts are remarkable, her nose for truth infallible. I can’t pick up a journal or magazine that she’s written for without going straight to the table of contents in search of her piece. What I think is so interesting about her work is that she really believes in what she’s doing, in getting it right. She’s very, very good. "— Pat Conroy (Prince of Tides, South of Broad) 1945-2016
